Scissors, Paper, Rock – 8’30” (2021)

This is a collage composition using recordings of instruments from my percussion library. Scissors is comprised of sounds of wood instruments, Paper is membranophones (something with a drumhead), and Rock is all metal sounds. None of the sounds have been modified. There’s not even reverb! The subtitle of this piece is “Farewell to Arms”, as my instrument library is being sold or donated.

5 Little Pipe Organ Pieces (2020)

These pieces are arrangements of well-known hymns. They are intended as Preludes/Meditations before Mass. Hymn to Joy as intended to be a Postlude romp. Each recording was made by a synthesizer. Some day I hope to replace these files with real pipe organ recordings. All were written in the Fall of 2020.

#1 – Attende Domine – 2’00”

This is a 10th C. Mozarabic chant melody harmonized by Fuentes.

#2 – Humbly We Adore Thee – 2’14”

This is an anonymous chant melody with Fuentes harmony.

#3 – Hymn to Joy – Beethoven – 2’12”

This is the melody that everybody knows. The harmonies are new.

#4 – My Shepherd Will Supply My Need – 2’02”

This is a traditional Southern Hymn. The new harmonies are influenced by Virgil Thomson.

#5 – The King of Love My Shepherd Is – 1’54”

This is Traditional Irish with modified harmonies that are new.

Rings of Saturn – 14’24” (2020)

Rings is a hybrid piece, a quintet for flute, clarinet, bassoon, piano, and marimba, written for the Nebraska Chamber Players.  The majority of the piece consists of sound files created in my studio, and about 1/3 of the piece uses ‘normal’ composition techniques. You will hear melodic fragments that sound familiar. They are my favorite licks in Beethoven symphonies 3, 5, 7, and 9.

 

Risas de los incas septet – 16’29” (2017)

This is a new version of my greatest hit made for the Nebraska Chamber Players.  I had to cut off the first 2 minutes to make the file fit the 20G limitation of the server. Doing this project was so much fun!  To hear the original quartet version I wrote for Zeitgeist in 1982, scroll down…

This is a piece in 6 movements for the Nebraska Chamber Players and University of Nebraska – Lincoln student dance company.

Bolero – 7’11” – an arrangement of Ravel’s classic for the Helios quartet featuring Troy Gardner, violin (1996)

Risas de los Incas – 16’27” – based on a tune from the Andes. A couple of variations have been cut to make the file fit the size limit. (1982)

Pan Am – 16’22” – a collage of tunes from Central and South America.  It’s like pre-digital radio, by turning your radio dial, stations would fade in and out. Some chunks have been edited out, to make the file fit the maximum allowed (1983)
